Housing and Shelter Programs - Prince George

Provides housing search support and shelters for those in need in Prince George.
The following programs are offered:
  • 24/7 Minimal Barrier Shelter: Offers a twenty-four-seven (24/7) minimal barrier shelter for individuals who identify as female to receive safe shelter and various services to meet their basic needs. These services include access to meals, basic personal hygiene items, and access to shower and laundry facilities. There are thirty (30) beds available, however in instances when the beds are all full, cots are available and will be used as overflow beds.
  • Extreme Weather Outreach: Runs from November 1st to March 31st annually and serves individuals experiencing homelessness and living outdoors during the winter months. Staff prepare hot beverages, snacks, and winter apparel and drive throughout the streets of Prince George from the hours of 7:00 PM to 2:00 AM to seek out individuals who may be residing outdoors. Staff encourage and advocate for individuals to access shelters and will provide transportation accordingly.
  • Housing Outreach: This program offers services to all gender identities, to support individuals to find and secure safe, stable, affordable, independent housing. The Housing Outreach worker supports individuals in identifying a realistic housing budget, contacting landlords and seeking out appropriate housing, setting up and accompanying to viewings, and additional supports.
  • Outreach and Housing First Program: The outreach program provides support to all gender identities to aid in a variety of services. Outreach staff aid individuals in identifying needs and accessing services in a timely, professional manner. Services that are offered through the Outreach program include and are not limited to; providing advocacy, making appropriate referrals to link individuals with health services and community agencies, linking individuals to appropriate income sources, transportation to and from appointments, opportunities to apply for rental or utility supplements, and continuous supports throughout the housing continuum. Housing First works with individuals who are experiencing chronic or episodic homelessness, within their mental health and/or addictions. Housing First does not require sobriety as a determining factor of housing readiness.
  • Community Transition Teams: Supports individuals to reintegrate into community. Individuals are supported to connect with income supports, medical and or mental health supports, and addiction recovery, CTT also works with AWAC’s housing worker for housing searches.
  • Men’s Drop-In: Offers a drop-in program between 8:00am and 4:00pm for individuals who identify as male, to spend their time and access facilities during the day. Individuals accessing this program will be provided with a safe and comfortable environment, snacks, basic personal hygiene items and access to shower and laundry facilities.
