Course and Training Funding

Provided by Okanagan Training and Development Counsel (OTDC)

Funding specifically for training that leads to employment.
This program purchases institutional training from a public or a registered private institution on behalf of clients. Training must meet a Labour Market demand to ensure individuals are able to secure employment on completion of the training or have the prerequisites to attend college or university. This could involve the purchase of a single seat or the purchase of an entire course. May also receive a training allowance or Employment Insurance as well as a supplement (ie child care, commuting, living away from home) while attending training.

Applicants must live within the OTDC Service Area, be of working age, and be of aboriginal ancestry as defined by the OTDC agreement. Other criteria include: lack of employment skills, must be unemployed, willingness to participate in training, not have training in a different employable occupation, (ideally) been out of school one year and not have barriers that might limit success in completing the training. It is expected that applicants are willing to meet with an Employment Assistance worker to discuss career planning goals and develop an Action Plan.

Course/Seat Purchase contracts can involve the purchase of an entire course from a training institution, or the purchase of a single seat in a given course. Types of training purchased must be vocational in orientation, or academic only to the extent that they may be considered preparation for vocational training or non-degree courses which lead directly to employment.
