Starbright Children's Development Centre

Provided by Starbright Children's Development Centre

Supports the growth and development of children with exceptional developmental needs through early intervention services, and empower their families through information and education to meet the needs of their child.
Services include:
Family Engagement Support: The program offers family engagement support to active Starbright clients. The Family Engagement Coordinator connects with families who are already receiving services at Starbright Centre and informs them about available resources in the community. Families are assisted in completing necessary paperwork, such as intake and funding forms, or in preparing for meetings specific to their needs.

Infant Development Program: The Infant Development Program (IDP) serves infants and toddlers aged birth to three years who are at risk of, or have a developmental delay. IDP provides a family-centred and strength-based approach to support families on their individual parenting journeys. IDP consultants visit families where they are most comfortable, whether at home, at Starbright, or in the community.

Clinical Counselling: The clinical counsellor provides help to children up to school-age entry and their families who are already receiving other services of Starbright, by using various play-based therapies.

Supported Child Development: The SCD department provides consultation services and extra staffing assistance to ensure inclusive practices for children who need extra support to be successful in daycares, preschools or out-of-school care programs. Ages birth to age 12. Parents of children over the age of 5 must be working or attending school to qualify for this program.

The Inclusive Childcare Program (ICP): Intended for children who require extra support to be included in a community early learning or childcare centre. To receive this support, the completion of a Support Guide and evidence of a developmental delay or disability in physical, cognitive, communicative or social/emotional/behavioural areas is required

Behaviour Support Program: The program provides behaviour support to children and families who are active clients of Starbright. Behaviour support is provided for Starbright families by a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst. The Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst develops, implements, monitors and evaluates behavioural plans and strategies for clients.

Occupational Therapy:Addresses function and promotes independence through skill development, and adaptation of activities, equipment or the environment. The focus is on fine motor skills, eating, dressing, playing, brushing teeth, toileting, moving around, exploring the environment, interacting with others, and learning.

Speech Language Therapy: Speech-Language Pathologists provide intake, assessment, consultation, and direct therapy. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join in and try out strategies to use at home. Education in the form of workshops and training sessions is provided to parents and caregivers, as well as our community partners and the general public.

Physical Therapy: Physical Therapists plan sessions for the child that will best meet the goals that were determined at assessment. A comprehensive home-activity plan, with written and picture guidelines for the family, to assist in the continuation of the therapy suggestions, has been developed.
