Family Services

Provided by Kelowna Community Resources (KCR)

Providing family services to those living in the Okanagan area.
Provides the following programs:
The Supports and Networking for Adoption and Permanency Planning Program (SNAPP): Prepares and supports children who are in provincial government care to go through the permanent adoption process. It also provides support, information, and education to foster parents through the process. Serves the Central Okanagan (Kelowna, Lake Country, Okanagan Centre, Oyama, Peachland, Rutland, West Kelowna, and Winfield). The program accepts referrals for children who are three years of age or older for direct work and referrals for children under the age of three who need Lifebooks and transition support. The SNAPP program is a program of KCR Community Resources and is on contract exclusively to the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) for the delivery of services. Children’s MCFD guardianship workers make referrals to SNAPP for the children they are responsible for in consultation with their Team Leaders

The Family Friend Program: Connects single parents with a screened, trained, competent family friend for friendship, support, mentoring and connection to community resources.

Kids Count Program: A family-centred, strength-based, home visiting program to promote positive parent/child interaction for first-time parents referred through a Public Health Nurse. Service can begin in early pregnancy and may continue for up to 5 years. Trained Family Outreach Workers (FOW) build trusting, caring relationships with participants while focusing on their unique strengths and needs.
  • Prenatally: information, education and support are provided that focus on healthy pregnancy outcomes for mothers and their babies. This includes preparation for transition to parenthood, including possible changes to school or work and planning future pregnancies.
  • Postnatally: the program expands to promote parent/child bonding and attachment, healthy infant/child growth and development, parenting self-efficacy and enhanced family functioning.
